I made this and thought I would share

I'm not sure this should be the conclusion, I think it's a good idea. But as Mr Wilson mentioned above, there is a risk of someone taking this out of context, which could lead to further disputes or people not trusting the information from this forum.

    Another Heat Treat Question...

If in that order, then it should be fine. But if it's annealed then cold rolled, I'd normalize. Don't forget that cold rolling is a form of forging, so the steel will have added stresses in the microstructure that proper normalizing/annealing will take care of. This.

    Another Heat Treat Question...

I think the answer comes down to if you want to be sure the knife has the optimal grain structure of if you want to be pretty sure the knife has it. How is the steel when you get it from the supplier? Is it cold/hot rolled? annealed? spheroidized?

How can I get a good flame striped finish on Ti?

I'd try one of the pencil butane torches as pictured above, and/or try using a wet dish rag or something similar to keep the surrounding areas cool while making the stripes.

Best way to cut up a burl

I've heard/read that a good coat of latex paint will work too. All we're trying to do is slow down the drying process to minimize checking/cracking/warping. When I lived up in the wet side of WA, I didn't even do this, but having (at the time) access to plenty of trees/wood I wasn't worried...

    Gun-Kote sources?

Good afternoon, all. I've finished all but one of the knights, and started to take some pictures. Here's the only one that came out decent enough to post: The round side is hard for me to get pictures using my phone. I've got a friend who does photography and will post more pics when I get...

Best way to cut up a burl

That's what I did when I heated with wood and harvested... On a related note, if possible, try to make friends with someone who works for a tree removal company. 2 doors down from me is a young guy who works for one such company, and ~3 weeks ago I noticed he had a few 4 foot sections of a...

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

Just got some pictures back of a few that are ready for a final edge from my neighbor who does photography for a living. Curious to see what you all think about his work (and mine):

    Heat treat question

One thing you can do to cool your oil if it starts to get tooo hot is to drop a frozen water bottle into the hot oil to cool it down. Just make sure it isn't hot enough to melt the plastic, or use a metal water bottle. You should be fine doing 2 blades at a time, if you're not dilly-dallying...

    Hunting knife handle

For the blade, GunKote might be a good idea if you want to protect the blade if it won't get cleaned/washed after use.
