what steel holds the edge the longest for cutting?

I'm not much for the stainless steels, but O-1 is often overlooked for its edgeholding and cutting abilities. According to the crucible data O-1 and A-2 are similar in performance as far as toughness and wear resistance.

How do you set prices when you are new? a discussion..

John, You might want to pick up some of the other cf belts, the a300 works quite well right after HT, even for the higher alloy steel. They make a300, a160 a100, a65, a45, a30, a16, and a6. From my experience you won't regret it. Sorry to get off topic here, as an experienced maker, I set...

How do you set prices when you are new? a discussion..

John, The grit goes a lot further down than that, Grab a piece of an old 60 grit belt and refresh the surface and they will cut almost like new. They don't glaze easily but when they do thats the trick to refreshing them. They cut a lot cooler then the others though don't they? With the...

    Auction Thread?

Auctions can be fun, but I think you will get more action if you run it as a raffle. I think that people will be a little more willing to part with a small amount for a chance, than the total. Run both and see which is more popular. In any case I will participate.

How do you set prices when you are new? a discussion..

John, How do you like the trizact cf belts? I don't use the same steels as you, and I get a lot of blades out of them. When I say a lot, I mean 100+ blades per belt. I am using O-1 and L-6 damascus. How many blades do you get out of a CF belt using the cpm steels?

    Wood

A lot of it depends on the moisture content, the lower the moisture the less it will warp.

    Saw Blade Steel

No problem, I went through about 800lbs of L-6 last year, its a great steel and I wouldn't want anybody to get the wrong impression about it. My personal carry knife is o-1/l-6 damascus and I havn't done anything but wipe it off and its fine.

What will be our "number" and why?

8, because I'm a fan of Terry Pratchett. If you don't understand read The color of magic (and because I'm reading his books now; all of them)
