Warped blade in 5160 - questions

Hey guys, just wanted to give you an update. I finally got around to working on that knifeblade, and after re-normalizing and re-annealing it three times, it's pretty much dead nuts post-quench. I used a 3-point clamping process to straighten, and the vise to correct the slight twist. I will be...

Warped blade in 5160 - questions

Hey guys. Been a lurker and infrequent poster for a few years now. Starting to get serious about knifemaking (finally), and I had a question about warped blades. I'm not a fulltimer, and I'm only producing a couple of blades a week at this point, so I have a little more time to dedicate to each...

    My third knife ever...

Laurence, believe it or not, this particular style of knife is what inspired me to start making knives in the first place. It ain't sexy, but it was what I wanted. My original goal was to make a really nice bushcraft knife for my personal use, since I lost all my camping gear in a tornado almost...

    My third knife ever...

Hey guys... just finished this one hot on the heels of the Airborne Utility I finished yesterday. The steel is, once again, 5160, with a zero convex grind. The handle scales are desert ironwood, and the pins are mosaic. I will also be making a leather sheath to go with this one.

    My second knife ever...

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement. Believe it or not, I finished #3 about an hour ago. I'll post it in a new topic. I have 3 more in the hopper after that one, and I'll be sure to post pics of those as well.

    My second knife ever...

Thanks Laurence! It was my first time working with G10 in any capacity, and getting the epoxy to be clear was an absolute bear, but I'm pretty happy with the end result. Still a LONG way to go, though.

    My second knife ever...

Hey guys... just finished my second knife ever (with a bunch more coming). This was a knife I made for a friend of mine who's in the Airborne down at Bragg. I inset his jump wings in the handle, which is OD Green and Black G10, and used brass pins and tube. The steel is 5160, the lanyard OD...

    My first completed knife...

Hey guys. I've been a student of these forums for years, and I've messed around with blacksmithing a bit some... but I finally got the knife bug, and decided to get serious about it. This is my first completed knife. While it's not perfect, I'm pretty happy with the result. I used...
