I just finished this sheath using the shaving cream dyeing method with a twist. I used Q-tips and leather dye to continue the pattern over the edge trying to sort of mimic a wood sort of end grain effect.
It's a hybrid of a leather body and the origional belt loop and snap closure from the factory sheath. The SecureEx factory sheath keeps the blade secure but dulls the edge due to the glass reinforcement. The nylon? belt loop and snap closure is nice. I don't usually like snaps but this one is OK and the retaining loop will not let the handle slide up. I'll never wear any of my daggers (law here states that if someone is scared by seeing it it then becomes illegal to wear?) but I just can't not have a workable sheath for most of my knives whether I'll ever wear them or not.
I have two of these daggers and am working on sheath #2 in a green and black marbled effect. #2 is all leather with my usual Sam Browne stud/shock cord retaing system. I like the 1/8" shock cord method because if it gets cut or whatever I can just attach a new piece of shock cord. Not so easy with a leather strap.
I've done a few of these dyed sheaths and will post more pics when time allows.......................EDIT: The back of the sheath I did in red & black for contrast and is pic #002. I showed the back to explain where the two screws in front end up......................
