2022 Knife in the Hat, Well it's getting to be that time of year

The weather in Florida is getting better, not as hot and humid. Time to stand in front of a fire, for the fun of it! Anyone interested in a Christmas KITH? Let's say open design, make what you want, stretch your talents or make what you are comfortable with, just do your best and show your work so others can follow and learn.

Keep twisting my arm... I'm almost in...
Can we do a "relaxed" Christmas delivery if things get too hectic?

I am so tempted. However I just started a part-time job today. I don't know at this point how much time it is going to take. Supposedly 5-10 hours a week. But that might change quickly.
My wife is stable so I don't think that would be a problem this time. However...hmm.
I'll think about it. But I'm inclined to think I should decline.

I'll check back in two weeks and give a firm yes or no. But it will most likely be no.
============
Edited to add. I'll make that end of next week. We'll already be in November by that time.

I have a lot to get done before Christmas, but I'd like to be in. Since it is a Christmas KITH will that be the due date?

Looks like we're getting some pretty good interest. This doesn't have to be finished in December or even called a Christmas KITH. Lets make it easy since December can be busy enough and call it a Winter KITH and set the finish date for January 30th. The point is to do it to share with other craftsmen and maybe take a chance to do something out of your comfort zone. There will always be an upcoming show or something to get in the way, and I don't think anyone has ever had an issue with someone finishing past the deadline, just commit to doing it when you sign up and don't quit and even then we are a pretty understanding bunch and if you are having a life changing event we would probably understand the need to drop out. So unless there are any objections Welcome to the 2022 Winter KITH. Knives should be in the mail by Jan. 30th. This will be open design, make what you feel like do your best work, post lots of progress pictures and good luck.

I'm definitely out for this one. My new job is going to be taking more time than I originally thought. I'll still be working on knives that I have in progress. But it will probably be a while before I start any new ones.

Best of luck to the participants!

What’s the status?
I think we should give everyone until 11/12 until we post the names. I am thinking we keep it simple and everyone makes for the name below theirs and the last on the list makes for the first. If anyone has a different / better suggestion let's hear them. Also should we start individual posts per build or start a 2022 Winter KITH thread and everyone can post progress photos in the same place?

Are there classes or divisions for this? Like as a newer maker I am confident I can make a nice knife that I would be proud to share and have critiqued, but I’m not yet capable of delivering a “@Gene Kimme” level of craftsmanship or degree of difficulty. I’d be embarrassed to receive a blade that outclassed my offering, and deliver a relatively “basic” knife to a seasoned & established maker.

Well, the way these KITHs are usually run, we just send out the best work we can do and accept what we receive without complaint.
You may receive a knife that is lower quality than you sent out, but your comments can help that maker improve.

I agree with Owl, this is for everyone no divisions. Most of us are our own worst critic, this at least for me is as much about doing something I enjoy as much as getting something made by someone else that shares the same passion for the craft, no matter what stage of the journey they are at. So if you are willing to give it your best and hand it to someome else, add your name to the list and welcome.

I always encourage new or less experienced makers to join in on these KITHs. I never understood the KITHS that you had to have so much experience before you were allowed to join in. If you’re worried about receiving a lesser quality of knife than you make, you’re in the KITH for the wrong reason. I join these to learn from other makers and maybe others can learn something from me.

Join in and post your progress as you make the knife. The more of your process that you post, the more tips, tricks and critique you will receive from other makers.

Well with responses like that you leave me no choice. I’m in!
Do not worry about your knife not measuring up to someone else's. I have participated in a few of these and for sure the first knife I sent out in a KITH was not near what I can produce today. What I can produce today is not in the same league with some makers. The pressure of making for another maker and the feedback you will receive will advance your skill and that is what this is about. I do not know about the rest on here but I NEVER buy knives anymore so this is my one chance to get a new knife I did not make.

All of that being said, @Dennis Morland looks like you got screwed this year. You are stuck with mine. I have really been wanting to make a cannister damascus with all of my layered damascus cutoffs. I think it should give an interesting pattern. Are you OK with that? Are you in need of any particular breed of knife currently?
