I Think I get it now. “Cooked holes because you are drilling on an angle due to the tapered spine”. I have never noticed that to be troublesome. You could forge it parallel then drill your holes and grind a taper in afterwards. Or the simple answer would be to drill slightly oversized holes and the angle will not matter. But, I have never had a tapered tang cause pin misalignment. Others may have though.

Thank you I hadn't even thought of over sized holes.
