I have two kydex presses (one big and one smaller). I went all out:

A foam knee pad from HF. Cut it in half and glue each half to a pine board. I use 4 quick-clamps.

Yep that's pretty much exactly what I will be doing

I actually threw down for the thermo foam, which I think lasts longer, but the rest is pine board and door hinges. I make my son sit on it for pressure.
