OK.......so what is it? I'm going to try my first one this weekend and out of curiosity did an internet search of how hamon is pronounced.
I found heymon, hamon, heymoan, hamoan, just wondering here.

Oh my gosh! Thank you! This is a bad one, and all too common. With the pervasiveness of the hamon fad one would think American makers would want to pronounce it correctly. It is like saying banzai when we mean bonsai. There is no short “o” or short “a” sound in these words with those letters, only long “O” (oh) and “ah”.

P.S. the same rules apply to mokume gane, long “O”, “ah” for “a”, long “U” and the “e” give you the long “A” sound instead. Japanese is simpler with the use of vowels and consonants than the convoluted mess we have in the eclectic mix of languages we call English.

Guess I can't call it Ham 'n'...anymore...But I come by it honestly because of Ham 'n' eggs....

Ha Moan sounds like some foreign word...at least I'm corrected before I tried making one...lol
