KITH Drawing Proposal

This is what I have in mind and would like your feedback
DRAFT
1. All the participants will be assigned a number. Known to all.
2. Participants will send me their choice in numerical order. (3,8,9 ..... etc). Known to all.
3. I will put everyone’s name in a hat (yep)
4. I will pull a name and the cross reference the participants numerical order of preference.
5. If that number has been selected previously then the next number will be used.
6. Obviously the first named pulled will get their first choice, for sure.
7. Keep up the process until all the knives are exchanged.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks

I kind of like the idea of being able to put a choice list together, but I sure don't want anyone's feelings getting hurt being the last one on everyone's list. It's like that kid that gets picked last when dividing up in teams. If you could do it so that the choices are not known to everyone, I'd feel better about it. Otherwise, I'd suggest that the knives as just awarded randomly. That's my 2 cents.

I kind of agree with BR. I think having public lists has the potential to hurt some feelings.

A list becomes a defacto rating system.

And having everyone make a list feels more complicated than it needs to be.

I honestly don't care who's knife I get.

The more random, the better, I think.

That said, this is your show OP and I appreciate the work you're doing to make it happen.

Yes, OP, thank you for putting this together.... this has been big time fun!! I don’t care which one I get either. First and foremost... whichever knife I get, will be a knife made by a friend that I will cherish forever. Can’t lose in my eyes. I also know that I’m a rookie in this game so if mine got picked last I’d completely understand, but I definitely see BR and MCM’s point. Heck you could probably just put the names in a hat and start drawing. The first name makes the knife for the second name picked... second person’s knife goes to the third and so on. The last person picked gives their knife to the first. I dunno just brainstorming lol.

I have no opinion.
I will abide by, and be very happy with whatever is decided, and will cherish whatever I am fortunate enough to receive.
Thanks for letting a new kid on the block participate.

Yes, thanks OP for taking the initiative on this KITH. I think I lean towards as random a selection as possible rather than an ability to choose. Previous post from Kevin sounds pretty good to me.

OP - you can decided what you wish as you are the one that started this KITH. I will agree with whatever you choose to do.

As a suggestion, in past KITHs a master list was created. First maker on list gave his knife to second maker on the list. Second maker gave his knife to third maker. So on and so forth. Last maker on list gave his knife to the first maker on the list. If I remember correctly, the selection was randomly completed with the luck being the draw factor. If any makers then wish to exchange drawn knives in private - so be it. No one gets their feeling damaged and the luck part is out of your hands. If you want, have your wife/neighbor/brother/whomever pull the names and film it. No one can then blame you or say you somehow controlled the outcome. If you do this before the knives are completed, it would be really difficult to say you rigged anything. You can keep the master list a secret until after the deadline. You can then post it up after the deadline. If someone drops out, no biggie. They don't get a knife nor give a knife and that spot is just eliminated. I hope this makes some sense.

excellent! I vote this one (if I have a vote) The thing is...Is there are guys on here that I want every knife they make...So I would feel shady putting them as a choice....I think "chance" is our friend here....

Makes sense to me lol

I've been following this KITH with interest. I'd LOVE to join in, but am leery of the WIP part. I'm just not very good at WIPs. I'd like to enter perhaps a hunter.... or small chef?

Now, on selection process, I think random is the best, like our Christmas list. What about along about end of process, generate a random list of names (random number generator, pull names from hat, etc), the as mentioned before, #1 send to #2, #2 to #3, etc with final sending to #1 to complete the process.

OK, I'm in - I'll find the correct thread and post name there.

Thanks for allowing me in.

OPaul - I'm sure I speak for everyone here - Just to show what great respect and trust we all have in you, we'll all agree for YOU to do the work of handling this whole setup {g}:);)

if you were totally retired, you would use spell check. lol.
how about assign us all a number, like right now on list I am #16. make 16 pieces of paper and number 1 thru 16. draw a number. number one on list sends to that number. draw second number, number 2 sends to them and so on. about as random as i can think of. all you see are numbers. when all numbers assigned, match up names and only tell the sender who they are shipping to. so I have no clue who is sending me a knife till the mail lady delivers it.
