Blacksmith Pole Vise Score

In another thread I had mentioned I was looking for a pole vise. Well one came up for sale and I got it. Going to pick it up Monday. For some reason these don't come up for sale around my area so I was surprised when I was able to get this one. Fellow says he had been using it for the last 10 years but didn't really know any history on it. It looks to be in good shape in the photos and the gentleman was convincing about the condition over the phone. Here is the picture.

That is an old one for sure and it's a beaut. That seems to be a good price based on what I'm see on ebay. Seems like forged in fire has aroused a lot of interest in the old craft and a rise in the demand for blacksmith tools.

It's missing the spring to open it. I went to a Blacksmith exhiition he told me that he uses a tine from a York Rake for replacment. Good for a Bartering point though?

Thanks. These were made (my understanding) so that the jaws and screw were independent so you could hammer items clamped in the jaws without damaging the vise screw. The leg also transmits the pounding energy down to the ground.
