I really like the shape and profile of that blade. I think it cut me while I was looking at itThat is a new design with a 4 1/2 in by 1 inch x 1/8 in 1075 blade for a general purpose knife.
This is one I just sent off to a new home last week. with Rimu (NZ native wood) and thata one will have brass bolster with buffalo horn handles

I got the blades heat treated today although I rejected the two bowies and the double edged blade. One bowie had a bend after heat treat and the other two I didnt HT as I was not happy with them.
On another point , I have mentioned "the lion knife" to Ted that was referenced in this thread on AH where I spend a lot of my forum time.

And this beauty is just about perfect for anything you could throw at it:
I also wanted to tell you- your suggestion for drilling holes in leather by using the sharpened shank end of the drill bit.... PURE GENIUS. It works like magic. I did two sheaths today and it is unbelievable how much that simple tip improved the finished look. It improved the process all the way around. I didn't have to constantly clean the flutes which made the process many times faster.

Gruff is a machine no doubt. by the way that large rasp Bowie looks like a beast. I would love to get into a 3 inch sapling with that. Great work as usual Gruff!

A great read! Had my heart racing!and...made me want to build a "lion Killer" lol...I think Von Gruff's "pig stickers" look similar to the english butcher knife...BTW...what makes a guy go into the bush armed with a knife to kill a wild boar??!!! It is not a way of getting meat that I would recomend as the animal is all hyped up with the chase by the dogs and when bought to bay will be full on adrenalin which toughens the meat against an animal that is shot unnawares of the hunter. However for those who indulge they need good knives so I am happy to provide. I dont think I have ever heard of anyone (here in NZ) who has been hurt by the pig he was chasing as the pig dosent stan much chance against a pack of dogs and a hunter.

I rejected a couple that were in the first pic and added another one or two and got them all ready for handles with one from the last batch to finish off.
There was a paallet of handle wood arrived this morning as well with 57 1/2 ft of 4x1 blackwood and 12 1/2 ft of 2 1/2 x 1 1/4 swamp kauri(1000,s of years old and a dug out of the old swamps.

Great looking knives Von. I'm not hijacking your thread but that video got my blood flowing. I never hunted hogs with dogs but have friends that do.
I know a few folks that got cut by hogs here in Florida and some that stitch their dogs up right on the tailgate of their trucks, some even have Kevlar they fit to their dogs. I had one wounded one charge me years ago but was finished off before he reached me.
I just shoot them with guns or bows. here's a couple pics. of hogs I've got in the past. the first one was with a .50 cal. muzzleloader, the second one was with a 7mm short mag.

Taken from the lion knife thread noted above I finished my first one to that pattern today so will be adding it to my general offerings on the Africa Hunting forum and expect it may have some exceptance there. It is supposed to be a plain utilitarian knife so I suppose it fulfill that criteria.
