KNIFE MAKER
The last 2 days I have been working on the part I like the least about knife making. The leather work. I'm glad these are done. I've decided from now on I'll work on smaller batches at a time.



The blades were finished this last week and are ready for the laser engraver. The ones that are taped up are Christmas presents for my nephews.
 
Aww, thanks Uncle Gene! Lol, I’ll take the top one with the gut hook. In all seriousness, those are some good looking knives!
 
Gene...yer a machine!! That's a nice batch....sitting on a slab of walnut? The upper right is my fave...but I'm too old to be a nephew...lol.
 
I have always enjoyed the batching process when it gets round to the leatherwork as it generally means I have not made (too many) mistakes on the blades and handles and I can look forward to packing them up and sending them off to new homes. I have 6 and a cleaver cut out and profiled and have another 4 to do before I start the bevels on this batch.
 
Thanks guys. I like working in batches, just usually smaller ones. This started smaller but I kept getting orders and adding to the number.

A few years ago, I made all my nieces cedar lined hope chests for Christmas, so when I started my adventure in knife making, I thought knives would be a good gift for the nephews.

Ted, that is a slab of walnut burl. Looks like this when cut up.
 
The knives for the nephews are finished and the sheaths are formed and drying. I used walnut burl for the handles and had their names laser engraved on them.





Now on to a few late Christmas orders.
