Hi there,
At first, I was going to ask if you all had heard of Brian Fellhoelter, but then noticed that he has posted here in the past - see over there about the Blade Show items (in 2011). Anyway, I did see an area to "Post Your Links", but if it's only supposed to be "your" links, and it wasn't mine, then I wasn't sure if I was allowed to or supposed to post links for other folks. Why? Because, besides his Knifewerks site, Brian's also got a new(er) Fellhoelter site as well.
So, if there's folks with any familiarity with Fellhoelter's works, then I thought that maybe y'all could also help me decide between two titanium items I've noticed. The first item I noticed is the pen from Fellhoelter - a titanium, bolt-action pen. What's fun about it is that, for whatever parts of the pen that could be created from titanium, he decided he would make from titanium. So that just leaves the refill and its spring, the o-ring, and the stylus material (an optional feature) that aren't titanium... Anyway, the design is pretty cool, and it actually looks to be an evolution of the pens that were shown in the link above about his Blade Show items. It's sorta a mid-tech version, and some differences look to be that the "ball" on the bolt mechanism is smaller, the action is on the other side of the clip, and the dimensions look to have changed as well. What's cool is that the pen is available at a crowdfunding site, sorta like kickstarter, called Jump Start City, and the pledge levels to get the pens are about 22-24% off of the eventual retail prices for the pens. You can check out the TiBolts here: http://j.mp/TiBolt_jsc
However, another titanium item has caught my eye as well (which is kinda ironic, since it has been made to be used by folks who may have impaired vision or are blind). It's called the Bradley timepiece. What's fun is that it's been designed so those who don't want to distract others by looking to read the time (or have a light go on in the movie theater) or those who may have impaired vision or blind can all tell the time without having to look at the watch. It seems to be a similar product to the Abacus watch, with a few differences. First, the Bradley has two ball bearings - one on the face to tell the minutes and one around the edge to tell the hours. And the Bradley also has a titanium body. You can learn more about the Bradley timepiece (it's a kickstarter project at the moment) over there: http://j.mp/TheBradleyTimepiece_ks
The deal is that, they are totally different projects/products, but they both are titanium items which I think are fiddle-worthy (the bolt-action of the TiBolt and the ball bearings of the watch, which reset with the magnetic position), and both objects which I'd use. The things is, they're comparable in price, but if I did decide to get one, I could only get one.
So, if you had the choice, which would you want to get?
Or, too long - didn't read? What would you like to get if you had the means - a titanium, bolt-action pen with a fun/relatively unique mechanism to advance/retract the pen point, or a titanium watch which uses magnets to position ball bearings so you can tell the time just be feel?
And hi! Nice site you've got here...
