Starting with the Basics :)

Multiple issues actually went into putting it on the desk, as opposed to on the floor, not the least of which is space, it's not my shop, so I have to be mindful of spreading out :)

I've got it secured, and operational now. I was surprised when I fired it up, as I was expecting to have to do a lot of tweaking, but it was quiet, vibration free, and the blade stayed on for the few quick cuts I made.

I finished cutting out my first knife blank (it was originally drilled because I didn't have the bandsaw). I'll be doing a couple more this weekend, with the saw, so no drill holes :)

Well, it's not a knife yet, but it bears a passing resemblance to one :) this is my absolute very first knife blank... And I'm not completely disgusted with it :) tomorrow I'm going to see about making it even more knifelike!

Ok, life has been less than cooperative lately. Seems like it's one thing after another, so shop time has been extremely limited. Planning on making some changes though that should help :)

This is what I've managed to create so far. The top one was first, came out a tad smaller than I wanted, and I really borked up the edge grind, and pretty much destroyed the tip. But I learned, and I'm almost sure I know where I went wrong.
Bottom one is the larger one I did today. We'll see how much I learned when I start on it's edge ;)

Ok, so I wanted to give my brother in law a knife this year, but I ran out of time (and I still can't grind a decent edge). So cheated and bought a finished blade from Texas Knife Makers supply (they are local for me). It's 7 3/4" with a 3 3/4" blade. Black and red layered Dymondwood handle. I also bought a blade and some Kirinite for my mom, but apparently I wasn't paying attention when I ordered and the blade is too big for the Kirinite scales, so I had to put hers off (we're getting her a Kindle Fire HDX though, so she'll be ok ;) )

And the finished result... I hesitate to call it my first knife, as I bought the blade... But it's my first handle ;) lol
