    Tip for Electro-Chem-Etch users.

What is used in the ultrasonic cleaner, is it just water or is there a mild soap that you're using mixed with water? I've been thinking about buying an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning my 22lr silencers but if it also works for cleaning stencils then it can pull double duty.

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

Hi Jim, which kit do you have, the starter or industrial? I was thinking about the super Etch-O-Matic industrial kit. It looks like a good bang for the buck compared to the other 2 etchers I listed. Does it etch deep enough? Does it mark clear, crisp lines? I guess I'm just wanting to know...

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

Thanks for the info guys and thanks Darrin for posting pics of your press. Now I feel like I'm leaning toward etching. I had seen some videos before of people etching and the stencil they were using were open and the etcher was a mess of wires and batteries cobbled together and the results were...

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

Don't worry about trying to sway me one way or the others cause that's exactly what I'm here for. I'm open to anything and I want something that looks professional and gives me a nice mark on the blade. The thing that worried me about etching is I've seen some that people have done with home...

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

Would you happen to have any pics you could post to give me an idea of what kind of press you're using? At first I liked the idea of the Everstamp type presses but the more I think about it, I like the idea of the arbor presses that Harper uses since it would give me more movement to place the...

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

Thanks guys. The Everstamp and Harper are the two I had looked at but didn't know anything about them. I like how the Everstamp presses look. It looks like their setup would have tighter tolerances with their press than using an arbor press. murphda2, I have looked into etching but it seemed...

Good place to buy metal stamp for marking knife blades?

I'm going to start making knives and I need to find a place that makes a top quality metal stamp for stamping my makers mark on the blade. I'll be using CPM 154 for my blades. I still need to design my logo but I wanted to go ahead and start shopping around for the best place to make the stamp...

    Hollow grind vs Blade width???

I know what the "Wheel Diameter" and "Stock Thickness" is but what is the "Edge Scribe"? Is it the measurement of the thickness of the blade from the outside to the scribed line? Kinda like when you scribe 2 lines on the edge minus .030 in the center to leave for heat treating and the "Edge...

    Starting to get set up

Thanks for the recommendation, that looks like a great video. There are some other ones on that site I would like to get as well, especially the hollow grinding video. As far as the knife vise, I probably should just build one. I just need to find some good detailed pictures and go from...

    Good place to buy steel?

Where's a good place to buy 154CM, ATS-34 and CMP154? I'm looking for at least 3/16" thick and 2" wide. So far the places I've found are only 1 1/2" wide. Also, is precision ground worth the extra price? What's the difference with standard steel and precision ground? Does that just mean the...

    Starting to get set up

HAHA I guess I just believe in having the right tools for the job. I use to work for a steel fabrication shop and was there for over 10 years. It was a small company and it had only been in business for a year when I started working there. Just getting started we had to make due with some of the...

    Starting to get set up

Thanks guys, looks like I'll go ahead and get to making knives and see how it goes. Also I want to get into making kydex and leather sheaths and holsters. So far I've gotten set up for the kydex but I still need to do more research before I start buying leather and leather working tools...

    Starting to get set up

A few weeks ago I decided I want to try my hand at knife making so I've been reading on here and a couple other knife forums for hours each night and have learned a great deal but there is still so much left to learn. So far I have a few note books full of notes that I've taken down along...

    Hello

Hi guys, I'm Kevin. I've been reading on this site for a few weeks now and I can tell I haven't even scratched the surface of the great knowledge I've found so far. I think I've learned just enough already where I can start asking questions without sounding too foolish. ;) I'm looking...
