Good place to buy steel?

Where's a good place to buy 154CM, ATS-34 and CMP154? I'm looking for at least 3/16" thick and 2" wide. So far the places I've found are only 1 1/2" wide.

Also, is precision ground worth the extra price? What's the difference with standard steel and precision ground? Does that just mean the scale has been removed?

Pop's, Tru-Grit, and USA Knifemakers Supply are all good sources for steel.

Precision ground has had the scale removed and, as the name would suggest, is ground to precise thickness. However, it isn't finely finished - there will be a lot of deep grinding marks to remove. I don't think it's worth it for fixed blades, but I do use precision ground for folders, since it's easier to keep both sides of the blade flat and parallel if they are that way to begin with.

Check with Aldo "New Jersey Steel Barron" Buno. In the supply section of the forum (sorryI'm on my phone right now and can't link it). Aldo had a bit of both 154CM and CPM 154 CM last weekend and should be getting more.

Aldo is a great guy to deal with when buying steel.
