    Cutting knife blanks

I use the exact one that Laurence linked. I waited till it was on sale, then used one of their 20% off coupons. IIRC, I got it for under $65. I took a 2"x6" piece of mild steel, drilled holes to match the screw holes in the smaller handle and attached it with the existing screws, the handle...

    Dagger and Cleaver

Day-ummm!! Very nice work! I'm digging them both, but I'm really loving that cleaver.

    This should be interesting

I do have a question about the AC power source, does it matter which lead goes on the knife and which goes on the pad? With DC, the positive goes on the knife and the negative on the pad, but what about AC?

    Etcher

I won't re-post what I posted in another thread, but check it out here. It's towards the bottom/middle of page two.

    This should be interesting

I think you have your AC/DC switch around. The DC etches, then the AC darkens the etched steel. Unless the buffer removed the darkened steel, then they are switched. My etching setup isn't neat and fancy like yours. I have a 19v 3.42Amp DC power supply from a laptop and a 9V 1Amp AC power...

Did you move the pictures, or delete them? I would love to see the work but none of the pictures are showing.

    Rail Spike

Where would be the best place to look for them? Would a hobby/craft store, like Hobby Lobby, have them?

    Rail Spike

Awesome work!! I love it. I have a thing for spike knives, and I love seeing different things done to them. Can I ask how you did the brass "spots"? Are they tacks going into the spike, or just through the rawhide?

    DIY Stonewashing tumbler

    Cable damast knife

Great work on both fronts. What's the design on the axe handle? I like it.

Good Deal on Surface Grinder in TN

I'm in Nashville, if you'd like to float me the funds I'll gladly by it to stop the temptation. Seriously though, if I did have the funds I'd snatch it up.

    Howdy from Tennessee!

Welcome from Nashville. Finally there is another maker near me. I too have made 6 blades so far, but four of them were ruined due to my stupidity/bad judgement. We should get together sometime and swap ideas and such.

Steel and blade material that doesn't need hardening?

Not sure if 4142 is good for knives, but here is some prehardened flat bar stock.

    WIP Sidewalker Flipper

I think you should do the flipper to mimic the shape of the blade, convex curve on the bottom, blunt rounded nose, and concave on the back. That or just go with something completely off the wall.

Steel question... 1084 or 5160 as my one steel for all knife sizes? 10" plus too

1084...Easy to HT at home, easy to work with, it's cheap so mistakes won't hurt so bad, a very good steel for both new and seasoned makers, large or small it'll work for them all.
