Aldo 1084, how rough is it initially? Not sure I'm wording that right.

Surface grinder would be pretty handy item to have. I will call them Monday. Thanks.

Thanks for the info Josh, I didn't see that listed anywhere on their site. Have you gone this route before? Was it overly expensive?

Aldo 1084, how rough is it initially? Not sure I'm wording that right.

My NWG is pretty much ready to go. I have my order of belts/parts all set from USA Knife Maker Supply, and now I need to get an order for steel sorted out. I asked on here about 1084 and got positive responses so I believe this will be the steel I start with. My question is how rough is...

    Very new 24 and 36 grit 2 X 72 belts from Norton.

You're up in GP now? Too bad I should have had you bring my order up in person. Enjoy your time off. Once you're back I need to call in and see about some steel and grinding belts.

no belt grinder how to convex?

I use an automotive sanding disc, I have used this on axes and on knives. I convexed an RTAK for a friend with nothing more than a drill and the automotive sanding disc attachment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgsy2SusaO4

    on/off switch for my NWG?

Thank you both. I ended up finding a motor rated switch at my local motor supply. It'll work with my current 110v setup and will also work when I get a 220 outlet in. I wired it up and it seems to work pretty fantastically. Thanks again.

    on/off switch for my NWG?

I have my NWG frame all built, ( well did, I tore most of it apart again and I am making a few modifications ) I have my motor mounted and I am getting ready to do my electrical work. Years ago I did work on power tools, electric motors, etc but time/age seems to have taken all of that I once...

Thanks guys. I thought I might get this positive feedback on 1084, just wanted to ask you folks first.

Steel question... 1084 or 5160 as my one steel for all knife sizes? 10" plus too

So I am finally getting close to actually making knives, I have been gathering and building my NWG over the past 12 months and I have it all built except the wiring of the motor and switch. I am planning out my next USA Knife Makers Supply order for grinding belts and I am on the fence about...

Ideal press dimensions for a do it "all" press

Hi all, I am a new member here, I have recently started working with Boltaron and my first press was a simple hinged design. I tried making a few things with the hinged press and immediately found disappointment in that press style. I will use variances of the hing press for things like...

Wiring 3 position switch to run motor forward/reverse without rewiring

So for polishing is it "safe" to run the belt in reverse of standard direction... ie... belt running towards ceiling... Safety wise, what extra considerations would need to be made? Thanks.

Wiring 3 position switch to run motor forward/reverse without rewiring

Sorry if that sounded rude, just re-read my post. I have never used a 2x72 so ideas that are "good" in my head might not transfer to safe operation in reality. Better to learn here before making the mistake and hurting myself.

Wiring 3 position switch to run motor forward/reverse without rewiring

Thank you sir for your response. It is safer to have the belt running towards the ground then so I would grind edge up and polish edge down? That is a safer way to do things is it?

Wiring 3 position switch to run motor forward/reverse without rewiring

Hi all, I am just waiting on delivery of my NWG parts and I am starting to plan out my build. I have a Baldor 1.5hp single phase motor and I am planning out the wiring. I got thinking it would be nice to be able to run the grinder for edge up grinding so belt running towards the...
