    HT oven or forge?

I have a building in the back yard, wired for 110 and 220, plenty of ventilation. The only problem I have is, it has wood a floor. When I eventualy get a forge going, I will have to use it outside, or risk burning it down. That really isn't a problem though as I am going to build a roof type...

    HT oven or forge?

Dave, the forges over at ellis custom knife works come with a port hole for that very purpose. I think it's a good idea as well, and something to be considered in building one.

    HT oven or forge?

LOL, Not to worry Wayne, your sanity is intact. This is also posted on the shop talk thread. I posted it there first and relized it should have been here, so it ended up on two threads. Oh, and by the way, I saw the other post as well and thanks for the advice.

    HT oven or forge?

I agree with the novelty of the RR spike, and that is just what I would be making one for, not to use, just to sit on a shelf and be able to say i did it. I do have a lot to learn about knife making, and have read extensively on this board and others about the process. I have yet to acquire any...

    HT oven or forge?

Thanks guys, gives me something to think about. May just go for a small propane forge for now then go for an oven as I learn more about what I am doing. Thanks again....Darrell

    HT oven or forge?

Thanks guys for the opinions, I know that even with the simple steels, I still have some book learning, and some hands on experence, before I can expect good results with either machine, it will come in time. I suppose I can see an advantage of having both an oven and a forge avaliable for doing...

    HT oven or forge?

HT oven or forge? Ok folks help me get a grasp on things here. I am going to need a way to heat treat and am unsure of which way to go. I will be using the simple steels, high carbon, like 1075, 1080, maybe some 1095 or 5160, as these are, as I understand, fairly easy to work with and...

    New grinder build

Not really sure about the benifit of spacing out the pillow blocks, but my thinking was to not have them too close together, also as you can see, my 5/8 shaft is longer than required, that is for future placement of a 9" disk, at the drive wheel, which I think the pillow block placement will...

    110 verses 220 motor supply

Thanks guys for the info, the motor is running on 110v, 12 guage wire, independant circuit with 20 amp breaker. I tried to use the diagram on the face plate for 220 hook up, but my lack of knowledge in this area prevented me from doing it succesfully. I had 220 coming from my 220v double pole...

    110 verses 220 motor supply

Hey guys, just a quick question about voltage supply. What is the major difference in running a grinder on 110v or 220v? I have both in my shop, but am unable (for some reason) to get my Baldor 1 hp wired for the 220 v. I have it wired for 110 v, now and it works fine. Is there a need to worry...

    Platen on NWG

Yeah, I have been using a 4x36 bench grinder, and have done pretty good so far. But I figured it was time to "Get on the poarch with the Big Dogs", and play with some big boy toys. Thanks also, for the picture reference and the video that were posted, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand...
