Wormy Chestnut boards

I got my hands on 2 boards of this Wormy Chestnut that are about 3 ft long/5 inches wide and 1 inch thick. These were reclaimed barn wood that was cut from the barn beams. According to the person who gave this to me- is over 75 years old. It looks good and has a good weight- does show the "worm holes" along the board.

My question is - will this work to be used as scales? Does it need stabilizing or just need to be sealed after final finish?
Anyone worked with this or know anything of it? Also, can probably get more if it is worth it. Will post pics soon.
