What kind of knife is this?

So I’ve been using odd pieces of steel lately... it’s been fun trying to match designs in my head with all the weirdly shaped steel. Anyway, this looks terrible, right? I honestly can’t decide if it’s ugly or I like it. My main question is does it have a use and where would it fit in the general classification of knives? Pleas critique, comment, and suggest. PS ....this is 8.75 ins long cpm154cm

I would call it a full tang - drop point knife. If you want, you could go with hunter or skinner. It resembles both of them in certain ways...

Thanks, brother. That’s kinda what I was going for. I’ve really been playing with designing a skinner with a Bowie style handle. The steel wasn’t quite right for it in this case, but I was still thinking in that direction. Thanks for looking.

You said it's 8.75" knife - is that a 2" wide belt it's laying on? If so, is that 8.75" the over all length? Giving the blade only 3 or 4"?

Ken, I wish more than anything that the belt was a 2 in wide belt. That’s a big ole goofy 4 by 36 lol. .... wait are you picking on me lol just kidding. From end of handle to sharpening notch is 4 in and from notch to point is 4.6. I just measured it again. It is a little weird looking, but it feels decent in the hand. I’ve taken care of a couple hotspots. One thing that I hate about field dressing is getting my hands messy. I’m thinking that maybe the length of this blade may reduce the mess. I’m going to have to test this out and report back.

Kevin, with a 4.6" blade I'd think more of a skinner. When I think of a camp knife, I think along the lines of this article:

I didn't realize the blade was only 4 inches long. On my phone it looked like a monster. Yeah, a 4 inch blade would be what I sell as a Hunter. (I know, silly marketing word but people relate to it.)

I got it...drop point hunting butcher knife. Great design there is alot you can do with that knife.

I’d call that a belt knife or utility knife. Should be good for plenty of tasks.
