I have a knife that the customer wanted a hamon on. I sent it to Brad at peters and had him HT it. When I got it back the Hamon line was very nice and noticable. I then finish sanded it down to 800 grit and put it in mixture of vinegar and acid and let it soak. My promblem is now the Hamon will not come back out. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Can someone give me some insight.

well after 10 15 min dips with some fine 0000 steel wool sanding in between I can see the hamon bit it is not nearly as distenctive as I would like or as when I recieved it. What can I do to bring it out?

Thats what mine was. It was tough to see the Hamon line but after a lot of soaks and buffing with steel wool it came out ok.

I used a mixture of Ferric Chloride and water that was mixed about 3 to 1 as per StephanFowler's Tutorial

I let soak a little more and a few more times.

Just keep soaking and polishing it over and over til you get where you want it. It usually takes several etching and polishing cycles to get it where I want it.
