Unidentified Tomahawk/Axe

I came across this recently made chopper. It is supposed to be based on some kind of 18th military axe. It's about 19-1/2" long and the cutting edge is 4" wide. The diamond checkered handle provides a very solid grip and, at least for me, is very well balanced.

I would appreciate any information on the original piece it was based on. Also, I will not feel bad if I find out it's only based on someone's imagination...that's just life.

Thanks

It's blade shape looks like a colonial broad axe, IMHO, used to shape timbers. Is that a hammer poll on the opposite side?
No matter what , it's still a very cool looking axe / tomahawk.
