The Little Knifemaker

For the beginning of the new year something that's been talked about for a shop project was the start of my oldest daughters first knife. She began with a Heller brand file that I hot cut to length. She forged to shape the blade and the distal taper of the blade. I was quite amazed at the abilities of only a 7 year old. Forging the blade to shape took many heats simply because of the size of the small hammer used, but it was accomplished. A few days later she profile ground the blade and rough ground preparing for heat treating. She was shown what to do, and followed directions perfectly. She completed a heat treating and I did the tempering.

All in all so far she's a natural at only 7 years old.
