The damascus blades etched

Well I got the ferric chloride thanks to robert .The B&E electronics is easy to find, right beside the casino lol well very close. So I soaked the blades for 5 min each side and had to resand 2 of the blades in the learning process. I know better now. You need to constantly move the blade around so it doesnt get a pattern from laying on the bottom . It would be better to hang in a jar . I then sprayed with windex washed in cold water and oiled with wd40 and sanded to 600 and they look awesome to say the least. I only took pictures after etching ill show them off in a few days after I finish them . I have some big plans for one for sure.

They look good next time hang them from a piece of string in a tall container so they are not touching anything it will give you a nice even etch on both sides.

Robert I used a tupper ware tub and has a lid but if I used a jar the acid would eat through the metal lid wouldnt it. I read in my book that some guys dip by hanging it makes sence but im worried about what will or could happen to the acid after. This stuff is like 10 times stronger than the murriatic acid I tried . The guys said its 40 % and 1 %hydrocloric . the muriatic was 30 % and really quite weak . I dumped it out and ran the garden hose for 5 min to flush it away but I added some baking soda and water to nuetralize it some what first.

Kelly i have a jar full that i use for small knives and it has a metal lid i have had the ferric in it for over a year with no ill effects. Ferric is not near as corrosive or dangerous as 30% muriatic. You can use it in a glass container with no lid then use a plastic funnel to put it back in the jug for storage.
