Surface grinder on casters

I am looking for some way to be able to move my surface grinder. I was thinking of putting some heavy duty casters on it and just leaving them on. Would this cause any problems? I am really having trouble moving this thing and am looking for a viable solution.

When it comes to a surface grinder or many of these machines that we use heavy weight is good!

You want as little movement or vibration as possible while the wheel makes its pass on the steel.

I would find a corner to put it in and load it up so it doesen't move at all!

Laurence is correct. Ideally, you should have your machine as perfectly level as you can, and sitting on some kind of anti-vibration pads that are rated for the weight of your machine.

If you're talking about just moving it once, I found that getting it up on some 2" heavy steel pipes allowed me to roll it where I needed it quite easily. I was able to use a 4 foot long prybar (longer would have been much better) to "lever" the machine left or right, or turn it CW or CCW as needed, and then I used the bar to pry the machine up enough to get the last pipe out from underneath after rolling it off the other two. I was then able to pry it back up for the anti-vibration pads.

However you do it though, keep your toes and fingers out from under the machine, and be VERY careful! Heavy iron is very unforgiving.

I understand what the gentlemen before have said. That makes perfect since. However , I did make a heavy duty frame from angle iron , and put 4 large 4 inch heavy -heavy duty wheels on it. My grinder does work very well mounted on this frame, and I am able to move it when I need to. Scott
