That's a very nice piece you've made there! The camping trip also sounds great,,always wanted to visit N.M. I've heard it's beautiful, love to see the elk up in the mountains. Again, great knife, I'm sure it will be a big help while camping.

Thanks, Wayne. Nice comments. We get overlooked as far as a mountain state does but the high desert and associated mountains and forests are beautiful here. The place we go is north of Silver City in the western part of the state - Gila National Forest - about 8000'. I have hunted elk in the northeastern part of the state and it is beautiful as well. New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment and it truly is. Thanks again,

Nice Knife! Should be a big help on your camping trips. I really like the shape and the walnut burl is one of my favorite woods. Let us know how the Indian Damascus holds up. I have bought a couple pieces too and it seems to hold up fine.

Nice! Have you used enough to get a feel for the steel's performance. I've thought about trying some of that Damascus, but kind of leery of online suppliers. I never noticed you were in Las Cruces, truly a beautiful town. I used to work on a traveling construction crew when I was younger, putting up Walmart stores. I'll never forget the first time I saw Las Cruces, that mountain backdrop over the town blew me away, still remember it like it was yesterday.

Anthony, they are the Organ Mountains (they look like giant organ pipes) and they are beautiful. As to the "foreign" Damascus. The first piece I got from this guy was flawed. Ii was 2" x about 15" and cost around $60. When I ground the blade there was a separation in the layers out by the point and as I ground further that flaw just kept creeping on down the blade. He had advertised on ebay that the Damascus was "guaranteed". His definition of" guaranteed" and mine were different so when I tried to return the flawed steel to him he bucked up. He wouldn't replace it until I threatened to file an ebay complaint on him. Finally he sent a replacement and this one was just fine. I think for the most part they are OK but since then I have only bought American Damascus (Alabama) and it's been great. I just finished a big Chef's Knife out of Alabama that I will be posting this week and it was great. I've made no secret when posting previous Damascus blades that I use it as a nubee because the Damascus tends to hide some "Maker's Flaws" in the blade :what!"

I've got a stick of Alabama on my bench, haven't tried it yet. They were at the Little Rock show with a bunch steel, but I got kind of disgusted with them. They didn't have prices on anything and the girl manning the table said the "guy" had stepped away. I came back to their table 3 or 4 times, never did see the "guy".
