Scrimshaw on Alternate Ivory Bar?

Anyone ever try to scrimshaw on this stuff? Can it be done?

I have scrimed on a lot of different material and if you can polish it smooth and close the pores it's doable.Some stuff takes a very light hand and some material will were you out.This is a inlay in the sight window of one of my Bear Take down bows.It's done on faux ivory and took a light touch with the needle.
