Question from the newest noob. Is this normal or a flaw?

I'm not a bladesmith but I recently started searching for a chef's knife. I found one online (and I'm really sorry I didn't find this forum first) and bought it. When I received it, I noticed what looked like grinding marks on the one side near the handle. Then I looked even closer and saw a very small crack on the handle. I contacted the company I bought it from and was told that is normal for a hand-forged blade. I was also told that the reason for the crack is because it had a knot in that particular spot. I'm hoping I can get an answer here because, honestly, I've looked at many of the knives shown here and they are perfect. Can any of you look at these photos and tell me if this is, in fact, normal? Thanking you in advance.

For the prices I see charged for their knives I'd expect better fit and finish. Gap at handle is unacceptable
Personally not a fan of primitive half finished blade. Might be trendy but if I'm buying a damascus /pattern welded knive I want to the the pattern not forge scale

Personally, I think that it's a case of close enough is good enough. I feel like viegski that a rough finished blade is an unfinished blade and if the stick of wood that they used for the handle had a knot then they should have gotten a new stick. I would be ashamed to let a knife like that leave my shop.

Thank you so much gentlemen. I didn't want to be so picky if it's normal but I've looked at many, many knives and didn't see any issues like this. If you all don't mind, I'd like to stay here and keep admiring your works and maybe even buy another one on another day. Such beautiful work I've seen.
