Practice what you preach

So in my many years as a knife maker I look at knife makers new to the field and see their imperfections and kindly ask if they would care for some constructive criticism ? usually its welcomed, and first off I point out that I am NOT the all knowing master of everything but there are a few things I can point out to help them in the future.

Well first thing I usually say is "take your time"

Well............... today is a prime example of practice what you preach.

I had my #4 JS knife profile ground and put it away for the weekend and start back on it Monday. Today the family and I are going to a friends daughters birthday party. I thought to myself, why not go grind out and heat treat and finish that blade ? So did..... Well all good until I get to the finish grind and sure enough I screwed up the plunge lines royally... I had them perfect but something happened and things wend south real fast. It almost ended up in the neighbors yard, but in my reconcideration I decided to flex test the blade since I just heat treated it and tempered it. By the way, it passed ;-)

In a haste I just ruined a perfectly good blade... If I would have listened to my better judgment I would have not had to back track and now have to start from scratch.

Tip for the day !! Practice what you preach............

An expensive lesion learned.....

I find my self in the same position with many projects. I am just so short on time i get in a rush. Hopefully someday i can retire from a day job and slow down.Lesson learned hopefully. LOL
