My Shih Tzu LOVES to run chickens (or half grown rabbits). Never barks, just chasing them. She wears a shock collar most of time (makes a good hearing aid), she started her chase after a hen. I had remote set on 1 (out of 10), she didn't seem to know I'd pressed button. Turned up to 3, pressed button, dog just shook her head and didn't slow down. Turned up to 5, pressed button, shook head again, slowed, then running again after hen. Turned up to 10 (never had it that high before), pressed button, dog gave a yelp and came running to me.
She was well experienced with shock collar knew what it was for and knew what it meant, just didn't mind the shock enough to stop chasing hen.
