My latest

Hey guys, here is my latest project. It is an American Frontier trappers belt knife. My research tells me that most American trappers carried two knives, One for skinning and butchering game and one, a stout one, used mostly on wood for camp chores like chopping, splitting, carving, sharpening, etc. This knife is my interpretation of the latter. The steel is Aldos 1075 with my best Hamon to date and the Handle is Curly Maple with an "Acid Stain" similar to that used by the black powder guys to stain their Curly Maple long rifle gun stocks. The sheath is vegetable tanned cow hide under a deer skin raw hide cover. This is my first try at an antiqued raw hide cover.

The specs are:
Blade material: 1075
Blade Finish: Satin Finish with an active Hamon
OAL: 10”
Blade Length: 5 7/8”
Blade Width at Plunge Line: 1 1/2”
Blade thickness at Plunge Line: .250"
Handle Length: 4 1/8”
Handle Material: Curly Maple
Three pins: 1/8" Stainless Steel
Handle Finish: "Acid Stain" plus Tru Oil 12 coats (per Ed McCaffery)
Time of fabrication: 22.5 Hours

Please comment, thanks

Wallace
