My First Try

KNIFE MAKER
So we got some pretty weather today, and I couldn’t wait to grind! So this knife is a first in many ways. This is my first one on a 2 by 72. Also, my secret Santa’s got me a flat platen with tool rest, but it hasn’t come in yet. By the way, how awesome are my secret Santa’s? Amazing! Anyway, since I temporarily only have access to a contact wheel (8”), I decided to try my first hollow grind as well. I used an oddly shaped piece of cpm154cm since I figured I would more than likely destroy it lol. This was one of those design on the fly knives. Blade is 5ish inches long and 1 in from spine to cutting edge. Critique please.

PS: Please don’t ever ever ever grind a knife on anything but a 2 by 72. Just trust me lol. WOW!!!!!!

That is just clean. I will admit I have never done a hollow grind though. I like the way the ricasso (or what I imagine the ricasso to be) junction looks.

Wow!!! Thank you all!!! This are all huge compliments! I just went super slow and put the grinder on the slowest speed. It has a ton of torque... no bogging... it’s sooooooo nice! Thanks you guys again

Your a natural, boy. I told you would be asking yourself why you didn't have one of these before. Dang good bevel for first go. Just remember not only is easy to grind one now. It is just that fast to screw one up if you loose your concentration!!!:D
