Knife Group of Oklahoma Shop Tour

KNIFE MAKER
Saturday we all gathered at Roy Millers shop within his business in Bethany, Oklahoma. Roy demoed taking two bars of mosaic damascus, with one side sanded to 400 grit and the other to 800 grit, and etched them to see the difference. One bar was also etched 9 minutes and the other 3-3minutes interrupted etches with cleaning between each one. We could not feel and difference but under magnifications could see some at the corners of the designs.
Ray Kirk brought his wire inlay techinque to show how to and the tools associated with doing wire inlay. He brought a knife and sheath made of wood which he had done inlay work on to show to viewers.
Steve from Tandy Leather also demoed his methods of making sheath patterns and made a sheath for one of Roys knives in the how to demo.
Roy and Mrs. Miller served a delicious Mexican dinner and the afternoon demos and conversation did not start off very fast. A siesta would certainly have been a good idea.

Roy has a different forge burner design with his forge featuring a ribbon burner. It ran 2500 degrees on 3 pounds of gas pressure with a blower and Roy commented he had cut the holes down by a 1/3 but needed to plug more holes. It was one of the quietest forges I haad every seen in operation.
We want to thank every one for coming and especially Roy and his family for hosting the tour. Next Tour will be in May probably in the Tahlequah area again.
I don't want to forget that we have our Knife Show set up for Norman Oklahoma the third of March at the Fairgrounds.
