Could someone recommend a good jimping file. I will use it mostly to provide a purchase point on the spine for your thumb. Thanks in advance.

Get a checkering file with the least amount of LPI. If I remember right mine is 20 LPI?

Chris , you may want a good jeweler 3 sided (triangle) file. That way you can vary the spacing to suit the spine size. Course this is only my opinion, you prolly could Google it for an answer !

Amazon has 30 TPI checkering files listed.
One thing to consider with the fine jimping is, how to clean and sand the grooves after heat treat. Folded sand paper will not do it very well. I have considered sanding cord, but have not tried it.
You will ruin the file if you try after HT.

That is a good point thanks. With 20LPI I guess it would be easier.
Actually, I have the 20 TPI and its square sides and bottom is less than .0626 (1/16). Thinner that my jewelers files.
But they function well and not hard on the thumb.
