Iron cross makers mark

Hi, first post here. It's not likely anyone can answer my question but thought I might try anyway. I inherited a small hatchet from my wife's grandfather, a Belgian who emigrated to Canada after WWII. I have no idea of its origin, it could have been brought with him or bought in a hardware store here in Ontario for all I know. There were no visible markings I could see until I replaced the broken handle and found a tiny iron cross stamped on the underside of the poll.

The picture shows it with a handle I made and not the original fawnsfoot, and I don't think it has any value other than sentimental, but I am curious about its origin, thanks.

I am looking for the history for the same makers mark on this fighting dagger found in Benjamin Texas. If any has any ideas I would appreciate your sharing the information.
