How my weekend changed...

KNIFE MAKER
Like most Saturdays I had planned a work day with a couple of knifemaking buddies and I was going to work on my KITH knife. David showed up about the time I started marking and cutting out the scales. As I continued on drilling and started on cleaning up the front of the scales Fred arrived and the whole weekend has taken on a new meaning...

Fred knew two important things "I love old tools & I needed a larger, better drill press" so he showed up with a Boise Crane bench top drill press for me he had in storage. Needs work but, I know it will work out and make my life a lot easier in the end.

Column on Boise is about two feet in height.

Rebuild is going to be fun. Yes got the push/pull switched motor with it too. Now what colors to paint it after the cleanup?

That drill press looks like they didn't skimp on steel when they built it. That should do the job. Be interested to see how it looks after the rebuild.

That thing looks like it was built back when my grandad was making stuff. I bet it aint lite.
I love the old tools and they make the shop look "more cooler".
Nice buddy you got there. I think I will try and find me a couple if they bring you crap.

Eric, our group has about 6 guys in it that make knives. When one gets something he shares with the rest of us. I regularly get South American hardwood from one of my clients who manages a hardwood lumber supply. When it comes in I cut it to workable size and past it out, Another of our group got some gator skin and we all had some gator skin. Yes its great to have a group of friends in the area that shares your interest and you all can share projects, materials, knowledge, food, and good times. We also work at each others shops so, in one shop there is a forging press, in the other a large lathe, I have 20 ton clicker press with a couple of leather dies, I airbrush & enjoy painting stuff from R/C cars to machinery so I do a lot of painting for the group when needed and so on. The one other thing we have in common is grilling, burgers, steaks, sauage, hot dogs, veggies, etc...

I also have a few college kids that are interested in knifemaking and rebuilding things that come by. I enjoy sharing what little I know with them.

I believe without the motor it is over 100 lbs. the motor must weigh about 25 lbs with the pullies.
