horse mat finish?

Just put on my first horse stall mat handle. Took it to 220 grit. Now what? Does it need any kind of finish? Had a customer who wanted it on a couple of kitchen knives, so I made up a small EDC as a test run for the material. Got the horse mat from Tracy, of course :)

Getting ready to try it myself on a tactical I'm making for good ol' me.

I would think that there wouldn't be any kind of finish that you could put on it. From what I've read most makers take it to a medium grit and leave it grippy. Not the prettiest stuff but when you need to hold on I think it's pretty snazy.

What did you use to glue it up with? I was wondering if the Gorilla glue might not be a good option due to it's tendency to expand into little holes.

I've made a few choppers with it and find that leaving it grippy is the way to go, no other finish required.

I found that contact cement is the best adhesive for this material. Once attached, it holds like a beast.
