Hello, I'm Lucas. New aspiring knife maker from Pennsylvania. Started out a few years ago by putting handles on purchased blade blanks. Have been satisfied with that until recently when a former boss of mine told me that he would like to have me as an apprentice to teach me how to forge damascus. He had retired from the day job around 6 years ago, and wants to pass on what he had learned in this hobby. In preparation for working with pattern welded steel, I ordered some 1084 from Aldo and started grinding out my own blades. I've been using patterns based off of Loveless knives, blanks that I had previously purchased, and blades that have caught my eye in books and online. Hope pictures aren't frowned upon here, I'll post a few if I can figure out how but please forgive the potato quality...
Here is a pair I finished using purchased blade blanks
This was my first "in house" knife, 1084 from Aldo. Blade length is in the neighborhood of 3 7/8", handle is maple.
This is my progress on my second knife, 1084 and 15n20 from Aldo, forge welded to 180 layers
Plunges have been giving me the most trouble, but with just two blades under my belt I haven't had much practice yet. Looking forwards to learn as much as I can, and would like to eventually pass the JS testing.
