Hamon

Nj steel baron .436 manganese
That's a decent manganese level to attempt hamon. I haven't bought steel from there in a long time but it should work.

The overwhelming majority opinion is that thin clay is better for better fine/subtle activity. Blade size and cross sectional geometry can play a role.

I have always gotten my best Hamons out of NJSB 1075 or from NJSB W-2 but I've never been estatic with any of them because I never get enough detail or fine figure. This is an example of 1075.
