Hamon

I would like to ask a question that may solicit a number a answers and that is how long do you submerge your blade in Ferric C to produce your hamon. Do some dip for longer or shorter periods for varied results Etc. What is your preferred etching medium.

I have made less than 5 blades with a hamon. I am just starting out and do not have a lot of practice time involved. But, here are a couple of tutorials that have helped me a great deal. The first one mentions John Doyle and Kevin Cashen as contributors. So, it is a a pretty good source, I think.

How long you dip in the ferric choloride, or vinegar or lemon juice or a combination of all of them and how many times and what you polish with and how many times you polish will all have a different outcome on the hamon. In some cases it really is as simple as just trying different combos of those things and seeing how they work for you.
