G10

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason that G10 can't be produced in blocks? I've seen some colors that I'd like to have in blocks.

Robert Dark has sheets 30'' x 48'' x 5/8'' in Jade Green, he got a truck load from me. He was going to cover all of his table tops with it, but the last time I visited, he had yet to use it.

I'm not sure it it would work for stick tang knives. I'd be interested in hearing if anybody has done that before.

I have a block that is 6 by 10 by 1 1/2 inch thick I believe. Came out of the aircraft arena and is the jade green

I have no experience with this so take my advice for what its worth, but since you could not laminate two together with a joint in the middle could you get three pieces and laminate them together so when you cut out the material for the stick tang its in one solid piece?
not sure if this would work but it's a thought
hope this helps

I have a block 18'' x 24'' x 1 1/2'' that you could cut an end off of, I am in Gadsden. You are welcome to cut it for what you need.

I appreciate the offer JatMat, but jade green really doesn't do anything for me. I found some stuff on Chuck's site that I'm going to order. Thanks again though.

Okay cue the weird music....
I was looking at alpha knife supply just a little while ago.....at the G10 blocks.
...end weird music...

I had the same problem awhile ago as I was looking for some blue and black G10 in 1" and came up with nothing.
After talking to Chuck at Alpha, I did laminate four 1/4" pieces together and it worked out beautifully. I used the Duraflex epoxy from Alpha as well, but Devcon would probably work ok as well. As an added benefit, I was able to cut the hole for the tang (through tang in this case) prior to assembly so it was MUCH easier than trying to do it in a block.
I have done it a few more times since then and have no problems. As a matter of fact, I had one handle that I glued up, put the knife together, realized the tang/handle joint was slightly out of square and thought I'd try to take it off with a 3lb sledge....
The handle is still on and in perfect shape
Pay attention when assembling the layers though, and assemble the pieces face to back or you will get wide layers where they are joined-although that could be used to effect too.

That is ok, here is a hidden tang knife done by Tad Lynch from same material, it seems to turn slightly pale when worked. If you change your mind anytime in future, I will still be here.
