First attempt at a sheath

Here is my first attempt at a sheath. I went and bought most of the tools, and s bunch of shoulder leather. After a little practice on some scraps, I decided to go for it.

I know it's not perfect, but it's a sheath! I would never have thought I'd be making knives and doing leatherwork.

Looking good! How'd you do the belt loops? I'm about to start my first leather sheath, any surprises or did it go pretty much as expected?

Surprises?!?

I have a boneyard of sheaths that I ruined.

These were the first two that made it to the end.

I cut a one inch strap and stitched it on the back side. I tried to make the belt loop integrated into the pattern, but it got wonky when I folded it.

So I designed this style, with full stitch, to avoid the fold.

I like this style, you don't see it often. Kind of different.

This was an attempt that failed. The integrated belt loop gets distorted and it was driving me crazy.

So I decided to design a full stitch version.

Nice work.
Another advantage to stitching the belt loop on the back is that it lies faltter and tighter to the belt/body.
