Decided to go without stitching, what do you think.
Thanks for looking.

Looks nice and clean, but, the lack of stitching is just waiting for a failure. Glue is a means to hold the piece together till its stitched, or riveted, together. Personally, and its my opinion only, I would not rely on one rivet and glue to hold one of my sheaths together.

I look at it this way, I want my work to be around in 50 plus years, glue wont last that long.

This is NOT meant to be over critical, just realistic. I love the look! I wish it was possible to be confident that it would be archival, but I cannot.

Again, I really like it!!

That's exatly what I was wondering, if glue only would be acceptable. This one went to my son, he may send it back for stitching, but I just couldn't resist the look.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks Eric
Martin
I cut the shamrock out of .040 nickel silver,w/a jewelers saw, filed and domed it, then hard soldered a 4-40 screw on the back, a hex nut was soldered inside a NS dome. for the back side attachment, so on the back of the sheath you see a 3/8" half dome.
Here's a close up

I should have taken a pic, it's gone now.
Thanks for your interest.

Good looking knife and sheath Mark, nothing to add that has not already been said. Dang I still need to come out to your place, you going to the OKCA show?

That's a very elegant sheath. It's amazing how the absence of stitching changes the look.

Thanks Stew, I was on the fence as to stitch or not.

Hey Mike stop by anytime, I've been in the shop every day this winter, other plans keep me from the show this year.

Mark, it did finish out beautifully. I feel fairly confident in predicting that it is not a case of "if" it fails, but "when" will it fail, because that's going to be a near 100% sure thing. You do have me wondering if a product like JB Weld might pull this little stunt off, though. The actual fibers making up the leather might be just as likely cause of failure as the adhesive. That good old fashioned stitch line just holds all those variables together.........for years and years and years.....

I watched your "Basic Pouch Sheaths" video again, before the finishing of the sheath. "Super Sheen" as a top coat, not sure if it's made anymore, it was a garage sale find.
Hadn't thought of the leather failing, and now more and more, I'm trying to imagine it with stitching.
Just have to make another one.

Thanks for looking and commenting, feed back is such a big part of this process.

Hi Mark, can't you just add stitching to this one rather than starting again?

Hi Stew
I had thought of that , but I need the practice and this one was shipped to my son. But yah, no reason it couldn't be stitched
