Etcher Build

I've been using my HO Train Transformer to etch my blades for about 2 years now. It is a little slow but works GREAT! Thinking about building a new one trying to decide on Transformer is higher voltage better or higher current? I have a feeling it doesn't matter as long as VA or wattage output is the same? Thanks in advance!

What DC and AC voltage is your HO Train Transformer? Current isn't near so important as long as there's an amp or more available. I've measured current a couple of times and it's always well less than 1 amp on either DC or AC voltage.

After reading the couple of responses my little etcher is a tad underpowered? Its 17V at 7VA. So that would make it just under 1/2 an amp current wise.

The 17 volt is just fine, at slightly less than 1/2 amp it's on the border. Even though it's a tad slow that does make your stencils last longer since they are in less danger of overheating.
