Cowboy Knife

KNIFE MAKER
A friend at church brought me this sheath and asked me to make a knife for it. He does cowboy shooting and wanted the knife to look 'era realistic'.
This is what I came up with. I did a little research and saw the type used, which were mostly bowie style knives. Don't know if this one looks the part but I think he will like it. (Hope so anyway :)) I really like this style sheath and it is well made.

Cowboy up! Your friend should be pleased.
Thanks Dennis. The knife is not tight to the sheath and I suspect the original knife was not either. I'm thinking about adding a retainer which would go through the belt loop and lanyard. At least that way it wouldn't fall out.
Any suggestions on how to make the knife secure would be appreciated. Tx

Some sheath makers wet the sheath and attempt to shrink it a bit for a tighter fit. If it is not even close to fitting, I don't think it would help enough to make it tight. To be honest, I have not had any luck trying that option..

I can see doing a loop through the belt loop with a snap. Probably your best option at this point. Otherwise, I am out of help. Sorry!

OP, I would make another sheath, at least for when he's on a horse, knives are notorious for getting lost on horses. I don't see any way of modifying that sheath and keeping it looking good. I'd just make another and give him both.

This is what I came up with. Nothing fancy, just an antler button, leather loop. The knife lanyard button fits in the loop and the loop is pulled down. Seems secure enough, at least much more so than before.

I'll offer up another sheath. He's partial to this one as it was given to him by his family and the silver dollar has his birthday year.
