Chopper hatchet set

"The Montana Bladesmith"
Just sent these out yesterday.....

Hatchet has a mild steel body, with a cutting edge of 1080, and a "stone washed" finish, hickory handle, finished out wtih Tru-Oil.

Knife is 1084, differentially heat treated (10" blade), with Desert Ironwood scales, and texturing on the spine. Both sheaths are 8-9oz veggie tanned leather.

Beautiful work as usual!! Very nice set. The grind on the knife in the picture almost looks hollow ground. I'm assuming it is the hamon that makes it look that way? Keep up the great work!

Yep! It's the differential hardening that gives it that look. It's flat ground with a convex edge. :)

Good stuff there Ed! I like em both. The axes are cool but it's really good to see you making big knives again. You should do it more often. ;)

Oh, and that texturing on the spine looks really intriguing. Got any better pics of that?

Thanks for the kinds words/comments gang! You keep slathering praise like that on me....and my heads gona start swelling! LOL! :)

John.....I never thought to get close ups of the spine....but I'll see if I can do some cropping on the pics I do have....and see if I can get a better view for ya.

John.....best I could do with cropping/enhancing. The texture was done with the GRS 850 rotatary tool, and a #FG8 (round) carbide burr. The texture is equal side to side, and goes all the way around the handle portion of the tang.

That's super cool and definitely unique! I've not seen that before. Very nice touch. That makes a pretty sweet knife that much sweeter.
