I'm getting ready to start my 2nd blade. My first blade did not turn out so well. Thanks to Ed I know to forge it round before twisting it. So,,, layer count is a determining factor in billet size. Also the size of the blade. If I want to make it easy on myself I can forge a larger billet for the count. What if I am only making a small blade. Do most of you make larger billets and save the extra for another blade. Is there a middle ground between layer count and blade size. Say I'm going to make a large Bowie. I don't want to make to much and I don't want to make to little after all the forging. How do you determine how large of a billet to start with. Just wondering.
