Bandsaw Blades

Hey Guys , Just trying to get an idea on what kind of bandsaw blades you use.

I have a Jet 64 1/2" bandsaw I use for cutting out my blades and works well. Ive been using these bi metal blades made by Sterling . I always keep a few extra on hand and honestly they've been working ok , but Im always looking to see if there is something better.

Truth is , I have not really experimented with anything else for the better. I tried stuff worse , but when I got a hold of these blades , I stopped looking.

I dont know the exact number of teeth per inch , I just call my supplier and have him send me the same ones that hes been sending me for years here at work , and Im on my way...

Can you guys give me a few different suggestions on what you use ? Maybe I can order up a few different ones and try my own experimenting.

Any input is highly greatful .

Thanks

Mickey, Hey Buddy.
You want Bimetal blades for cutting steel. I like 14TPI and If I remember correct you want about three teeth per thickness of steel you are cutting. I have done well getting them from a few different sellers on ebay. Lennox and Starrett brand have always been good buys also Laguna the bandsaw maker has decent blades. www.lagunatools.com/bandsaws I have one of these Laguna 64 1/2 bimetal blades on the saw now and it's been working and holding up great. I think these are European made? I ordered it by phone from them.
I do try to stay with USA made.

Watching the thread. I've been pretty happy with lennox DieMaster II. I like 10/12TPI if I'm just cutting off stock, but prefer 18 - 22TPI for profiling. (Think about how fine they have to be keep three teeth in 3/32 stock. It aint gonna happen, so I like as fine as I can get. At 18TPI, you can almost fit a piece of 1/16 steel between the teeth, which means a lot of the time there will only be one tooth in the stock.

Always open to new suggestions. FWIW, I tried a carbide grit blade and it wasn't worth the money.

Good point Rob, makes sense, I'll look into that .

Hi to you too my friend Laurence. Ya know , I didn't even think of ebay. Thanks guys. Lovin the suggestions.

I use a Starrett bi-metal blades 24 TPI wavy edge. It seems to be the perfect blade for me for cutting out blades to cutting pins and thin tubing. Seems really fine toothed, but give em a try you'll like them. Always go slow at first with a new blade to properly break them in, then you can whale away!

I got the Lennox Diemaster 2 in 24 TPI for 1/8-3/32" steel. I broke the blade in nice and slow, used Lennox lube/wax and I profiled out over 20 knives with 1 blade and it still has plenty of life left to it. It was a 120" bandsaw, not sure if the 24 TPI comes in the smaller sizes. You may need to get one welded up instead of a premade blade.
