I don't try and sell you guys stuff here very often but I'd like the Knifedogs guys to at least know about this deal so you don't miss it.

We bought 18,000lbs of old stock from a friend in the industry.

It is 50100 and 5160 and it is for a one time buy and sell out.

We have the 50100 listed now. We are still working on the 5160 but should have it later today.
See the listing for composition.

Get it while you can.

and some 5160 at a hot price

Not sure why, but the links aren't working as they were originally posted. Here's a link to the 50100:

and here's to the 5160:

Looks like it bears some similarity to 26C3. I bet it would take a hamon. Definitely a "water" quenching steel.

Hey I picked some of this 50100 up the other day. I quickly made a blade (attached) and I quenched in canola.

The product page and some other resources online said oil is fine for the heat treat. Does anyone have experience with it?

Tom

I am just going to mention...

I did some tests on the 50100 today using canola and brine. And both.

My blades are all 1/8 of an inch or less. It seems cold canola oil quenched them just fine. I broke a piece that was oil quenched and the grain looked lovely. I think brine would perhaps be too harsh. I'd rather have a slightly softer knife than wrestle with warping or cracking.
